CHICAGO – An anonymous tipster who saw a Chicago police bulletin about a recent robbery at the Addison Red Line station helped police identify the attacker, officials say.
On Oct. 22 around 9 p.m., a 21-year-old woman was riding a northbound train when a masked man grabbed her wrist and pulled her toward the Addison platform, 940 West Addison, according to a police report. The man grabbed the woman’s phone and ran from the station.
Detectives decided to release a surveillance image of the robber on November 2, hoping the public would identify him. The move has paid off.
An anonymous caller identified the robber as Dashion Jones, 37, prosecutors said. Police started looking for Jones and recently found him in the 200 block of South Sacramento.
According to his arrest report, Jones was carrying the same backpack as the robber, and inside the bag was the same Los Angeles Dodgers jersey that the robber was wearing.
Judge Ankur Srivastava remanded Jones, saying he had been convicted of robbery last year and was on remand for battery at the time of the Wrigleyville robbery.
CWBChicago was founded in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had become discouraged by the inaccurate information presented during local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has since expanded to Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown and other North Side areas. But our mission remains unchanged: to provide original public safety reporting with better context and more detail than mainstream media. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
