The John Michael Kohler Art Center‘s known Art/Industry program will accept applications through February 28, 2025 for twelve residency openings in 2026.
For 50 years, this prestigious program has hosted hundreds of artists from 25 countries. Art/industry offers the unique opportunity to explore new ideas, processes and perspectives while creating work using the world’s resources, technology and materials. Kohler Co. factory in Kohler, Wisconsin.
Art/industry artists are given the time and space to continue their creative process in studios within Kohler Co.’s industrial foundry and pottery factory. Artists-in-residence receive 24-hour access to studio space, industrial materials, use of equipment, technical assistance, photographic services, housing, round-trip transportation, and a modest weekly stipend.
No experience working in metal or clay is required. Arts/Industry welcomes artists from all disciplines who are curious about how industrial processes and environments can shape their work. Artists-in-residence have access to cutting-edge facilities and technologies that can push the boundaries of their practice.
There are four artists present at a time, two in the Kohler Co. pottery factory. and two in the foundry. Residents are expected to commit to a full three-month stay. The focus of the residency is on artists using new materials and processes in a practical way while building relationships with the skilled craftsmen who work for Kohler Co.
