The man who was shot by Chicago police officers was sought by authorities in four different provinces of Illinois, according to judicial data. Kewion Kingcaid, 21, from Carol Stream, remained in the hospital for injuries he had sustained, according to CPD he turned to officers with a firearm.
The police went to the 1900 block of North Austin on Saturday around 10.30 pm after a woman called 911 and reported that people had weapons at a party that they attended, according to a Chicago police report.
Cops saw an “illegal party” going on in a house and the crowd was instructed to spread, according to the report. Everyone indicated, but officers noticed that Kingcaid was walking in a different direction than the other partygoers while held an object for himself, according to the report.
Officers followed Kingcaid and ordered him to show his hands.
“A short chase of the foot followed, which led to an officer who was involved with shooting,” said the report.
According to a CPD media statement, Kingcaid turned “in the direction of officers with a firearm” and one of the police shot him. Officers found an “AR-Type gun” without manufacturer markings equipped with a charged 30-round magazine on the ground near Kingcaid, according to the report.
Officers of Justice accused him of a serious illegal use of a weapon and serious abuse of a peace officer.
He also had four active warrants: one by one theft of 2023 in the suburbs of Cook County, another for hindering a peace officer in Dupage County, and others from the provinces of Lasalle and Mchenry, according to the court reports.
Kingcaid remains in custody over the warrants and will have a separate detention about the new allegations after he has been fired from the hospital.
