CHICAGO – Gunmen kidnapped and robbed two people in separate incidents in Old Town Wednesday afternoon, Chicago police reports show. Two suspects are in custody.
The crimes are similar but not related to a kidnapping and robbery that occurred Thursday morning in Little Village.
Wednesday’s robberies happened about 10 minutes apart, just a few blocks apart.
At approximately 4:40 p.m., a 28-year-old man was walking in an alley behind the 100 block of West Division when a blue sedan, possibly a Chevy, pulled up. Two of the three men in the car got out, displayed weapons and forced the man into their car, a CPD spokesperson said.
The crew forced the man to electronically transfer money as they drove him around and robbed him of other valuables before releasing him without injury, CPD said.
A similar scenario played out in the 1200 block of North Wells around 4:50 p.m. This time, two armed men approached a 26-year-old man and forced him into the backseat of a nearby sedan, possibly an Impala, the spokesman said. They demanded his property as they drove him around, but police say he managed to escape in the 1000 block of North Wells. He suffered a minor leg injury but refused medical attention.
According to a police spokesperson, officers found and arrested two suspects shortly after the second incident. A report was filed Thursday morning.
According to CPD, armed robbers kidnapped a couple early Thursday morning as they entered a restaurant in Little Village. A dark SUV pulled up to the couple in the 3400 block of West 26th Street and five men got out, three armed with handguns and a rifle.
The crew forced the couple into the restaurant, robbed the business and then ordered the couple into a waiting SUV. The crew then proceeded to rob the victims, taking them to several ATMs and forcing them to withdraw money, police said. The man, 48, and the woman, 39, were eventually released. They declined offers of medical help.
Police were looking for five Hispanic men in a dark blue Infiniti SUV.
