A gunman shot two women during an armed robbery in the West Loop last night, police said.
According to a CPD media statement, the two victims were standing in the 600 block of West Randolph Street around 12:50 p.m. when the gunman exited a white SUV and approached them. He demanded their property, grabbed a woman’s bag, then opened fire and hit both women, police said.
A 21-year-old woman suffered a gunshot wound to the knee and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition. A 33-year-old woman was taken to Rush Hospital with an abrasion to her hip, CPD said.
Witnesses described the shooter as a black man wearing a brown shirt who fled in a white Kia, possibly a Sorento, with a damaged windshield. According to people on the scene, there were more people in the car with him.
Editor’s note: Although CPD said the shooting occurred at 12:50 p.m., radio broadcasts indicate it occurred about 10 minutes earlier.
CWBChicago was founded in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had become discouraged by the inaccurate information presented during local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has since expanded to Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown and other North Side areas. But our mission remains unchanged: to provide original public safety reporting with better context and more detail than mainstream media. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
