CHICAGO – Armed robbers are targeting late-night bar patrons as victims wait for rideshares in two of Chicago’s busiest entertainment districts. Police have linked five cases to the robbery crew so far this month, three in Wrigleyville and two in the Gold Coast.
According to CPD, bar patrons are being robbed while waiting outside for their Uber or Lyft to arrive. Three or four men approach them and show a gun or use physical force to take property from the victims, police said. In most cases, the robbers took the victims’ phones and used them to access the victims’ bank accounts.
CPD said crews robbed victims in the 3500 block of North Clark at 1:30 a.m. and again at 2:30 a.m. on Jan. 5. They returned to the same block and robbed another victim around 1:10 a.m. on January 11.
In the Gold Coast, the robbers targeted a victim in the first block of West Division at 3am on January 11 and in the first block of East Elm on January 12 at 2.16am.
CPD described the robbers as black males between the ages of 16 and 25.
Detectives from area three are conducting the investigation. You can reach them at 312-744-8263.

CWBChicago was founded in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had become discouraged by the inaccurate information presented during local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has since expanded to Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown and other North Side areas. But our mission remains unchanged: to provide original public safety reporting with better context and more detail than mainstream media. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
