A former bank employee has admitted to stealing thousands of dollars in cash from her own drawer.
Former Western Bank employee Kelsie Marie Karr was caught by her manager last year after noticing a shortage of cash in her drawer. reports ABC 7 News.
When questioned, Karr admitted to stealing money from her drawer.
Court documents show that Karr began taking money from the drawer in May 2025, but managed to conceal her actions by using force balance.
“She made it appear as if her cash drawer was balanced, when in reality this was not due to the money she had embezzled.”
Force balancing is a fraudulent practice in which a bank employee alters, manipulates, or falsifies bank information to match the cash drawer balance to system totals at the end of the day, even if the amount is too high or too low.
Earlier this week, Karr pleaded guilty to theft, embezzlement or misapplication by a bank officer or employee for stealing nearly $16,000 in cash from Western Bank. She had already paid $15,773.77 in restitution.
Karr now faces 12 months behind bars and a fine of up to $100,000.
Western Bank is a Texas-based community bank with $838 million in assets, according to the Federal Reserve.
