Body found in Boulder Canyon believed to be missing CU student

A body matching the description of a missing University of Colorado Boulder student was found Saturday morning in Boulder Canyon, according to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.

The announcement came after local, state and federal law enforcement ramped up their search for 18-year-old Megan Trussell, who was last seen leaving her campus dorm Feb. 9.

Boulder County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Vinnie Montez and University of Colorado Boulder Police Department spokesperson Nicole Mueksch said they could not confirm whether the body is Trussell’s but said the person will be identified by the Boulder County Coroner’s Office.

First responders did a technical evacuation — including rappelling — to recover the body, according to the press release.

The news comes after police conducted multiple searches with drones, search and rescue dogs and a dive team in the 400 block of Boulder Canyon Drive in the past several days.

Trussell was last seen at 9 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, leaving her campus dorm, Hallett Hall. She was wearing a blue jacket, dark-colored yoga-style pants and white platform sneakers, according to Christine Mahoney, a spokeswoman for the CU police department.

CU Boulder police and local and state law enforcement agencies worked to locate the student. A CU Boulder police vehicle, members of the Boulder Emergency Squad dive team and other search and rescue personnel were parked in the 400 block of Boulder Canyon Drive around the middle of the day on Thursday, according to a photographer who went to the scene.
