The basketball courts in Franklin Park. (Apple cards)

An 11-year-old boy was shot on Saturday evening near the basketball courts in Franklin Park, North Lawndale, the police said. With temperatures that stimulate the 90s, the park and the swimming pool were full of families who enjoy the summer and are looking for lighting of the heat.

Just before 5:30 pm at least ten shots were fired near the basketball courts. Witnesses reported that parkgoers ran to cover and fled the swimming pool after the gunfire broke out.

The 11-year-old boy was one of those who fled the park. The police found him less than half a block away with a shot wound on his lower back. He was reported in good condition in the Stroger Hospital, according to the Chicago police.

The police have not released a description of the shooter or a motive for the incident.

CWBCHICAGO was founded in 2013 by five residents of Wigleyville and Boystown who had been discouraged with inaccurate information that was provided during meetings of the local community policing (CAPS). Our coverage area has since been expanded to cover Lincoln Park, River North, De Loop, Uptown and other North Side areas. But our mission remains unchanged: to provide original reporting of public safety with a better context and more detail than regular media. Our editorial e -mail address is news@cwbchicago.com
