CHICAGO – Chicago police say a group of burglars broke into at least four businesses early Sunday, two in the Loop and one each in Lakeview and Lincoln Park. The crew of five remains on the run, CPD said.
They began their crime spree by breaching the main entrance of Foot Locker, 26-28 South State, in the Loop. After rummaging through the store, they fled in a newer Kia Forte, according to a police bulletin.
For about an hour, the group followed the same strategy at three other businesses, breaking open front windows or doors to gain access to the interior.
At Sheffield’s Market & Deli, 2955 North Sheffield, they broke the window around 2:03 a.m. and took items within reach without entering the store, a witness said.
About twenty minutes later they were back in the Loop. This time they reached South Loop Market in the 200 block of West Van Buren.
They finally reached AJ Convenience and Tobacco, 3401 West Fullerton, at 3:06 a.m.
According to the CPD bulletin, the burglars were five black males wearing mostly dark clothing, black balaclavas and orange and black gloves. The car they used was reported stolen in the Loop later that day.
