CHICAGO – Burglars tried and failed to break into at least two luxury boutiques near the Magnificent Mile Sunday morning. But initial reports say the stores’ security glass and possibly an armed guard have thwarted the efforts.

“Welp, here we go again,” sighed a CWBChicago reader who lives nearby. “Heard some banging and saw a group of people who had jumped out of a car trying to break the windows of Dior, not sure what with.”

“One of the armed security men seemed to scare them off as they all got into the car, leaving it empty-handed on the ground. When the police came by, they were already gone.”

Police received calls reporting that four men wearing ski masks had jumped out of a black sedan and tried to break into Dior, 931 North Rush. Responding officers said the would-be burglars successfully broke the glass near Amiri, 46 West Walton, and crews were unable to break the reinforced windows.

The witness noted that Dior had just repaired the security doors about a week ago after a crash-and-grab attempt on March 16.
