BYD Shark 6 2025: PHEV prices confirmed for Australia

Prices for the BYD shark 6 has been announced for $57,900 before on-road costs and, as promised, the sub-$60,000 price tag applies to the single, high-performance version of the groundbreaking plug-in hybrid ute launched to date.

At this price, which is being called an ‘introductory offer’, the electrified, Chinese-built 4×4 double cab utte undercuts that of the Ford Ranger XLT Bi-Turbo double cab ($63,640 before on-road), and the Toyota HiLux SR5 with V-Active technology ($63,260 pre-on-road).

Available to order now, ahead of first deliveries to local customers in December or January (when the first 2000 units will be available here), the Shark 6 is the first PHEV ute on sale in Australia, beating the Ford Ranger PHEV and GWM Cannon Alpha Hi-4T on the market.

Initially, only one top version of the Shark 6 will be offered, with four exterior colors and one black interior color.

The Shark 6 is powered by a version of the 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine from the Sealion 6 Premium AWD, which is mounted longitudinally rather than transversely, plus two electric motors (one on each axle) and a lithium battery of 29.58 kWh. iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack.

The powertrain produces a total power of 321 kW and 650 Nm, which is sent to all four wheels.

BYD claims an electric range of 100 km (NEDC), and the Shark 6 is said to consume just 2.0 l/100 km when driving as a hybrid with the battery charged.

The new BYD Shark 6 is 5457 mm long, 1971 mm wide and 1925 mm high and has a wheelbase of 3260 mm.

The braked towing capacity of the BYD Shark 6 is 2500 kg lower than that of traditional diesel double-cab 4x4s.

BYD’s local distributor EVDirect has partnered with Australia-based off-road accessories company Ironman 4×4 for the Shark 6, and the first 2,000 customers will receive a $500 accessory credit.

All official Shark 6 Ironman 4×4 accessories are only available through BYD’s local dealer network. And they’re all covered by the vehicle’s six-year, 95,000-mile warranty.

Inside, the Shark 6 offers a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless smartphone mirroring, plus a head-up display, 12-speaker Dynaudio sound system, wireless phone charging, several power socket options, faux leather upholstery and electrically adjustable front seats with heating and ventilation.

Standard safety equipment includes rear collision warning, blind spot monitoring, front and rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, Intelligent Cruise Control, driver fatigue monitoring, a surround view camera and parking sensors front and back.

The BYD Shark 6 will likely be covered by the same six-year, 90,000-mile vehicle warranty and eight-year, 100,000-mile battery warranty as the rest of the automaker’s lineup.
