A man was beaten with a 15-year prison sentence for the carjacking of a resident of Lincoln Park in October 2023. Noah Sidney, 20, chose a bad night to do it: a federal helicopter for law enforcement was in the air, working with Chicago Cops and State Trooping.
The carjacking took place shortly before 7 p.m. when a 31-year-old man released groceries from his Audi Q3 in the 2200-block of North Seminary. The police said Sidney was walking to the victim, showed a gun and forced him to transfer his keys, wallet and phone. The victim indicated and Sidney drove away with his car.
But a task force with several jurisdictive law enforcement worked that night in Chicago, including a high -tech helicopter operated by American customs and border protection.
After the victim told Chicago Cops that two broadcasts were in his hijacked car, the police started following the devices and shared their location with the helicopter, according to a CPD report. The helicopter found the Audi a few minutes later and, according to the report “Step-wise location updates” to land units in Radio to land units.
When the Audi parked in the 4700 block of South Martin Luther King Drive, a trooper of the State Police in Illinois pulled in and Sidney chased the report.
“Important assist with that of the IL State Police, who used their pursuit capacity to follow these fleeing, violent armed robbers by the Dan Ryan,” ALD. Brian Hopkins (2nd) tweeted after the police had arrested Sidney.
The police have sent the Audi back to the owner.
On Tuesday, Sidney argued guilty of worsened kaacking with vehicles with a weapon in exchange for the 15-year punishment of judge Angela Munari-Petrone. He must sit out half of the punishment before he is eligible for release.
