((The middle square) – For the 13th consecutive year, the city of Chicago again ruled as the murder capital of the country in 2024 with 573 murders.
Ted Dabrowski, the president of Wirepoints, is of the opinion that the disease has been confused for too long.
Even when the total murder figures fell throughout the country, Chicago also claimed the first place for the highest murder percentage per head of the population among large cities with 21.5 per 100,000 population. That is three times the level of Los Angeles and almost five times that of New York City.
“It means we have a real problem and that we are sick,” Dabrowski told the middle square. “Until we become serious, this murder problem becomes a towing place on the city in terms of attracting people, attracting companies and, worse, it will chase people away and chases companies. It is something we need to get our hands in the neighborhood.”
Dabrowski adds that although mayor Brandon Johnson of Chicago often talks about the crime in the city, the truth is that figures are all over the country, simply not so much in Chicago.
“It is true that the crime has fallen slightly, but it has fallen dramatically throughout the country,” he said. “It is hardly down here. You have places such as Jacksonville where murders have fallen at 50%. You have places such as Baltimore, Philadelphia and Washington, DC, where it has fallen 30 to 35%. Our murders are only 8%. We are only part of the National Golf, but we have hardly participated in that National Golf.”
In total, 19 of the top 20 cities for total murders saw fewer murders in 2024 than the year before.
“It is a bit sick to not think we should have the rule of law,” said Dabrowski. “We have a mayor who apologizes for children who make major crimes, because they are only children; we have had the lawyer of a state who refused to prosecute the way she should and we have a very low arrest percentage, which is a large result of a low police officer because of city officials who do not support the police.”
