Chrome-loving luxury brand goes stealth with a blacked-out luxury sedan

Korean luxury brand Genesis does not shy away from the bright metal finish of its cars, which makes it new G80 Black quite a departure.

Arriving in Australia in 2025, the G80 Black is the brand’s fourth vehicle to receive the blackout treatment – albeit only the first in Australia.

Essentially all of the exterior trim has been blacked out, including the front grilles, front emblem, and window and bumper trim.

The inner surfaces of the headlights have also been blackened, as has the forward radar cover, while the lettering on the rear has been darkened – although these are finished in dark gray and not black.

It rides on 20-inch wheels with a gloss black finish and floating center caps.

Look inside and – yes, you guessed it – the cabin is black.

That not only means a black dashboard and black quilted upholstery, but even the buttons and switches on the dashboard and center console.

The speaker grilles, badging, sill plates and even the paddle shifters are also finished in black.

However, instead of gloss black inserts, Genesis has used real wood finishes with a black finish.

Genesis has not confirmed pricing or specifications for the G80 Black in the Australian market.

The G80 was updated earlier this year with a mild exterior and an overhauled interior with a 27-inch display.

It continues to be offered with a choice of 2.5-litre four-cylinder turbo engines and 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engines.

An updated version of the Electrified G80 – an electric version of the sedan – is expected here in 2025.

Genesis sold 57 G80s in Australia in 2024, placing it narrowly behind the Audi A7 (60 units) but well behind the Audi A6 (280), BMW 5 Series (614) and Mercedes-Benz E-Class (381).
