Colin Jost kicked off “Weekend Update” on Saturday by giving a shoutout to New York City officials for sending a “tough message” on crime as the gunman who shot and killed UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson remains at large.
“If you shoot somebody in the middle of the street, you better get on your bike, hop on a bus and get the heck out of here, mister,” joked the “Weekend Update” host.
He also spotted how the aftermath of the shooting “really says something about America.”
“A guy was murdered in cold blood and the two main reactions were, ‘Yeah, well healthcare stinks,’ and also, ‘Girl, that shooter hot,’” Jost said.
The manhunt continues for the suspected gunman who officials say took off from the scene of the deadly shooting via bicycle on Wednesday and headed toward Central Park only to later take a taxi cab to a Port Authority bus center.
The individual may have fled the city via bus, according to New York City Police Department commissioner Jessica Tisch.
“Uh, thanks, but a Port Authority passenger who looks like a murderer actually widens the search,” Jost quipped.
Jost said he found it “so crazy” that the shooting happened “in broad daylight” and the gunman bicycled away just three blocks from where “SNL” is filmed in Studio 8H at 30 Rockefeller Plaza.
“Probably because they have every cop in the city guarding our Christmas tree,” he joked.
Co-host Michael Che turned to a seemingly flirtatious moment between the suspected gunman and an employee at his New York hostel that reportedly led him to pull down his mask to show his face on camera.
″[The employee’s] name has been reported as Lucky S. Bechalive,” he joked.
