Flags across Colorado will fly at half-staff Monday in honor of Colorado Department of Transportation employees Trent Umberger and Nate Jones, who were killed Wednesday when a Jeep driver crashed into them on US 6 near Palisade.
Gov. Jared Polis ordered flags lowered in memory of the two Grand Junction maintenance workers in a news release Friday.
Umberger and Jones followed safety protocols when they parked off the road to repair a sign, Colorado State Patrol officials said after an initial investigation.
They were removing a sign from the truck bed when the driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee ran off the side of the road and struck them, CSP said.
Umberger, Jones and a passenger in the Jeep, Kathi Ann Wallace of Grand Junction, died at the scene.
State police officials are still investigating the crash and possible charges against the driver, who suffered minor injuries.
