When you walk into a place such as the Moco Museum, you expect to see names that have formed modern and contemporary art-Andy Warhol, Jeff Koons, Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat, among others. What I did not expect to find during a recent visit to the London location of Moco was something from the world of cars.
Yet it was: Daniel Arsham’s Blue Calcite eroded Porsche 911 sculpture. Known for his ‘Future Relics’, the artist established in New York had created a vision in time and decay, cast in fiber optics, steel and minerals.

At first glance, the Porsche 911 SCS in 1980 are all unmistakable lines. But then you notice that Arsham’s characteristic touches. Sections of the car that seem to have been crumbled are replaced by blue calcite and quartz crystals. It is as if this Porsche was buried for centuries before he was dug up as an artifact.

Seeing a Porsche 911 in a museum is nothing new – we celebrate the best Van Stuttgart in Automotive exhibitions around the world. But here in the Moco Museum London, this 911 exists as a bridge between car culture and art.

It made me think about the timeless appeal of the 911, and how even in a state of ‘decay’ his beauty does not continue to deny.

If someone who has spent for years on racing tracks, in garages and car -contains, it is always special to see a Porsche in any form. But this felt different.

Ultimately experiencing the Blue Calcite eroded Porsche 911 Personally, a powerful memory was that cars not only live on the road or in the garage – they have cultural weight and meaning that go beyond speed and performance.
