A developmentally disabled five-year-old Cub Scout was viciously beaten by an older boy while the scoutmaster was vaping outside, his outraged family alleged in a lawsuit.
The child with special needs suffered lifelong injuries after he was brutally attacked by a much larger 12-year-old who had tormented him in the past during a Cub Scout meeting at a local church in Ohio, the lawsuit alleges.
“I heard him scream for the first time, and that’s a sound that as a mother I will never, ever forget,” said the boy’s mother, Breanna Russell. told WTOL 11.
The boy, referred to as DR in court documents, was attacked during an indoor “snowball fight” with fake snowballs during the Pack 422 meeting at First Christian Church in Bowling Green on December 4, 2025.
As the scoutmaster stepped outside to vape, 12-year-old LC allegedly hit DR in the head as he bent down to reach for a snowball. WTOL11 reported.
He then kicked him in the stomach, knocked him over and stomped on his leg, causing a debilitating fractured femur, according to the lawsuit.
Russell said the attack occurred while she had momentarily taken her eyes off her son, and that she was alerted by the sounds of his screams.
“When he screamed like that, we just knew something was wrong, he was so hurt,” she said.
The family is suing the Boy Scouts of America, the scoutmaster and LC’s father, claiming LC provided improper supervision given his history of aggression toward DR.
“Defendant LC has a history of physically assaulting Plaintiff DR and was repeatedly told to keep his hands to himself prior to the incident in this complaint,” the lawsuit alleged.
DR was rushed to the emergency room at Wood County Hospital and required emergency surgery to treat his oblique fracture of the proximal femoral diaphysis, which the lawsuit described as a “severe and painful fracture of his femur.”
The young boy had flexible titanium elastic nails surgically inserted into his femur on December 5, 2025 to stabilize the fracture.
According to the lawsuit, he was in so much pain from his injuries and the surgery that he required morphine and other painkillers.
DR was forced into a cast that significantly limited his mobility and was unable to attend school due to his injuries, the lawsuit said.
“He is a very energetic, happy little boy who was so proud to be part of Cub Scouts,” Russell said.
The parents claim that LR will suffer lifelong physical and psychological injuries as a result of the attack.
