A man is confronted with armed robbery and firearms after the police detectives of Chicago have found an airtag from the victim near his house and video of him who tried to use the stolen credit cards of the victim at a petrol station, the prosecutors said this week.
Judge Ankur Srivastava ordered Jonas Lee Jr., 21, held after officers of Justice had presented the allegations during a hearing at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse.
Prosecutors said the victim met Lee on the social media app BLK, who identifies himself as “a dating and lifestyle app for cultural makers in the black community.”
“We want you to feel safe here, as if you are at home,” says the company’s promotional material.
BLK apparently did not notice that goal when Lee and the victim met for the first time around 9.15 pm on 5 May in the 3700 block of South Wabash.
Prosecutors said the victim was driving to meet Lee, whose BLK users name was ‘happiness’. The men spoke about 20 minutes in the victim’s car before they got out. In the middle of the street, the victim heard a gun cock and realized that Lee, according to the prosecutors, pointed a firearm to him.
Lee reportedly demanded the victim’s ownership, and the victim indicated and handed his iPhone, Apple Watch, AirPods and Wallet. A witness who called 911 reported that the robbery unfolded and heard the victim argued for his life, said prosecutors. The victim, terrified, fled the stage and later returned to pick up his car.
About 15 minutes after the holdup, Lee arrived at a gas station in the 100 block of West 111th Street and tried to use the victim’s credit cards, said public prosecutors. The cards were rejected because the victim had already deactivated the bills.
The Chicago police identified Lee’s car from Video and followed him as the registered owner, according to public prosecutors. Researchers also found one of the victim’s flights in a garden about a block of Lee’s house, near the gas station.
Detectives served a house search order on Match.com, the owner of BLK. The search revealed conversations between Lee and the victim who confirmed the report of the victim said officers of Justice.
The police arrested Lee at his workplace this week. At the time, he reportedly had a red bag with another firearm. Prosecutors said he “made admission” during the questions of the police.
Lee is accused of armed robbery and exacerbated illegal possession of a weapon.
