Mayor Eric Adams blamed out-of-control Democrats for newly elected President Donald Trump’s victory – saying they were too busy comparing him to Hitler to discuss real issues affecting the American people.
Hizzoner was asked about Trump’s attack on Vice President Harris in the five boroughs and the message he said it sent voters.
“Oh, thank you for not talking to people anymore. We started talking to people,” Adams told Fox News anchor Martha MacCallum on Wednesday.
“You’re not hearing people and you’re having a dialogue, when individuals are afraid of affordability, losing their homes, their children’s futures, and you’re having these intellectual conversations, and people are saying, where the hell are you talking? about? about?
‘I’m in pain. And you ask: is Donald Trump Hitler or not? Adams told MacCallum. “It’s just not about people’s real needs.”
Trump performed nearly 22 percentage points better in The Bronx and Queens this election than he did in 2020. He also saw huge gains in all other boroughs, including Manhattan — and beyond on Long Island.
Democrats, including then-vice presidential candidate Tim Walz, likened Trump to Hitler — who dominated the news cycle in the final weeks of the election, as left-wing news networks like MSNBC jumped on the sound bite.
Adams also criticized the Biden administration’s border policies, saying the migrant gangbangers now wreaking havoc in New York City have little to do with the Big Apple’s sanctuary status.
“Sanctuary City is completely different from any man-made crisis we’ve seen,” he told McCallum. “This is what Sanctuary City says: when you’re in this city and you pay taxes, you buy a loaf of bread, you pay taxes, that’s your tax money. You are entitled to the city’s services.
“We are saying that, as a sanctuary city, if you are here and participating legally, you will receive the services as you begin your journey to obtain citizenship or legal status,” he added.
“But it is not a safe haven for those who commit criminal acts or attempt to harm immigrants, asylum seekers and other New Yorkers.”
Last week, Adams said he is considering using his executive powers to target violent criminal migrants and asylum seekers in the city — and has expressed his willingness to deport migrants after they have been charged with a crime but before they have been convicted and served their time served.
The Democratic mayor, who is facing federal corruption charges, also defended his record since taking over City Hall two years ago, saying he had proven critics wrong after he was ridiculed for wanting to focus on public safety and wanted to invest in cryptocurrency.
“When I first started, I said I was going to invest in cryptocurrency, people laughed at me. Who’s laughing now?” he said. “And when I was first elected in 2022, I told the party it’s about public safety. People are tired of the revolving door, where people are constantly committing violent crimes and returning to the streets.
“We ignored it.”
Earlier this week, Trump said he would consider pardoning Adams because “he was treated quite unfairly.”
