A former police officer in Chicago was sentenced on Tuesday to a probationary period for two crime cases with accusations of sexual abuse against colleagues at the Police Academy and the district station of Calumet (5th).

Eric Tabb, 35, argued guilty of two counts of worsened battery in a public place for right James Novy, according to judicial data. Prosecutors dropped eight counts of criminal sexual abuse that was previously submitted against him.

In August 2023, Tabb reportedly destroyed a female recruit on the dance floor in a Wigleyville bar. Tabb graduated from the police academy the following month, according to records.

Four months later, Tabb reportedly took the private spaces of a now 33-year-old female officer over her clothing in the Roll-call room of the Calumet Station. The same woman reported that Tabb had touched her inappropriate on three separate occasions.

Public prosecutors also submitted ‘proof of other crimes’ that they do not pursue with charges. These include accusations from another recruit, later fired from the Academy, which claimed that Tabb grabbed her waist from behind and pressed her buttocks while showing another recruit how they log in to e-learning, according to a police report.

“Why would you do that?” She remembered that she asked Tabb.

“You are too much,” he reportedly answered, and suggested that she reacted exaggerated.

Tabb’s lawyer stated in a court that the Chicago police have twice investigated the allegations of the third woman, but did not pursue any charges or entered ‘adverse findings’. The lawyer also claimed that the third recruit was fired after seven fellow recruits, including Tabb, reported her for making gang-related comments that she denied.
