CHICAGO – Prosecutors have charged a man with killing two of his former colleagues in a Navy Pier office this week. Raylon East, 36, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.

More details about the charges will be revealed when East appears at a detention hearing at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse this afternoon.

On Tuesday afternoon, a pier security guard called 911 when he discovered the two victims in an office area near a loading dock. The victims, men ages 47 and 51, were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, but their injuries were non-survivable.

Investigators found video footage of the gunman walking off the pier and west on Illinois Street near McClurg Court around 1:25 p.m.

CPD officers immediately identified East, recently fired from a food service job on the pier, as the prime suspect. But when they couldn’t locate him Thursday afternoon, they released surveillance images of the gunman and asked the public to help find him. East turned himself in about three hours later at the Grand Crossing (3rd) District Police Station, 7040 South Cottage Grove.

Court records show East was convicted of armed robbery in 2008 and had the gun charge dropped in 2017.

CWBChicago will post a full update after East’s performance on Saturday.
