A Brooklyn – Teenage in the head in Queens had dreamed to join the Air Force, her desperate family said on Sunday – because she remained stunned by the strange circumstances of her death.
DEAZA Barkley, 17, was found with a fatal shot wound at the head in a house in Jamaica, Queens, just after 5 pm on Sunday after the police were called on the spot about reports of a shooting.
She was rushed to the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, but was soon declared dead.
Exactly what happened to the girl – and why she was at the address in Queens, that she was not her home – remains unclear, but her family and friends have been stunned by the murder.
“She prepared to graduate high school, and her plans were to apply for a job at the Air Force,” Deza’s mother told the post.
A family friend who refused not to be called, described her as someone who loved her family and was always well contributed.
“I just came from Florida for a wedding, and her mother called me crying this morning and told me what was happening,” said the friend.
“I know she liked dancing and she was a cheereader in high school.”
“She never got into trouble. She has an older sister and she also has a younger brother, “they added.
“I am confused, and I just try to find out what happened.”
The address where Deaza was killed is a large house in a quiet, lounge -lined Buurtstraat.
A person of interest in the shooting was taken into custody and is being interviewed, law enforcement sources told the post.
Photos of the scene showed that a man in handcuffs away from the house was led.
The investigation keeps going.
