Leapmotor, a Chinese manufacturer partly owned by Jeep and Fiat parent company Stellantis, will launch its first model in Australia after being officially approved for local sales.
Leapmotor’s first Australian vehicle, known as the C10, will be a five-seat electric SUV that rivals the Tesla Model Y.
The mid-size C10 is confirmed to produce 160 kW in Australia, 10 kW less than production in the Chinese home market.
It is 4.7 meters long, 1.9 meters high and 1.7 meters high, with an empty weight of 1995 kg.

The sales-approved model comes standard with front and rear disc brakes, and a choice of 18- or 20-inch alloy wheels. It sits on a Macpherson front suspension with multi-link rear suspension.
The braked towing capacity is 1500 kg.
While we don’t have any further details on local specs at this time, overseas specs give an indication of what the C10 has to offer.
In China, the C10 has claimed a range of 410 km or 530 km on the smooth CLTC test cycle with LFP battery packs of 52.9 kWh or 69.9 kWh.
Models for the Chinese market feature a rear-mounted electric motor, which can accelerate the C10 from 0-100 km/h in 7.3 seconds.
Prices range from 128,800 to 168,800 yuan in Leapmotor’s home market, which is equivalent to about $27,000 to $35,000, but it will likely end up with a higher price tag here due to import costs.
Leapmotor International is a joint venture between the Dutch conglomerate Stellantis, which has a 51 percent stake, and the Chinese branch of Leapmotor, which holds the remaining 49 percent.
In addition to the C10, Leapmotor plans to bring the T03 city car to Australia as part of its international expansion.
