Flyers threatening "genital inspections" found in Jeffco restrooms

Fraudulent flyers posted in multiple Jefferson County park restrooms on Sunday by someone pretending to be the sheriff’s office threatened “random genital inspections” would start next month, sheriff’s officials said.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Jacki Kelley said the signs, which used the sheriff’s office’s logo, were “utterly ridiculous.”

The flyers said the “inspections” would begin on April 21.

As of Sunday afternoon, Kelley said deputies had confirmed copies of the sign were posted in — and taken down from — restrooms at Crown Hill Cemetery and Crown Hill Park, between Wheat Ridge and Lakewood, and that deputies were still searching for more.

Multiple residents reported the signs to the sheriff’s office on social media, she said.

“Although the insinuation is absolutely absurd, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office believes it is important to clarify that our agency would never be involved in anything of this sort,” the sheriff’s office later said in a statement on X. “The sheriff’s office will not tolerate anyone misrepresenting our agency, or misuse of our logo in such a manner. If we can identify those responsible for this alarming flyer, we will pursue the appropriate charges against them.”
