Once again, California’s progressive overlords have proven themselves to be the enemy of law-abiding everyday Americans: witness the ugly saga of Will Luna, the hard-working owner of a retro video arcade in San Bernardino.
A gang of thugs from a local homeless camp robbed and vandalized the arcade during Thanksgiving; someone saw the loot in the encampment and Luna went to investigate and found some of the stolen merchandise.
But when he went to the police, he was told they couldn’t enter or move the tents: “They said, ‘We can’t go in, but you can,'” Luna said.
So the brave small business owner did just that and recovered some of what was taken.
The rest?
Vanished – including PlayStation and Nintendo consoles worth thousands of dollars and a vintage X-Men arcade game.
But it’s that sentence from the police that reveals the horrible truth here: Luna, and people like him, are on their own in California.
Yes, the U.S. Supreme Court recently ruled that cities have the right to close homeless encampments, and places like LA are even making some gestures toward actual enforcement — but clearly not at the expense of the “rights of the homeless.”
The camps near Luna’s store aren’t just a threat to him: all the businesses in this shopping plaza have been broken into because the camps have grown in recent years.
Degenerate freaks who lived there would even, Luna told The Post, masturbate in front of the windows of the adjacent parlor.
No public interest is served by allowing the camps to grow.
It is devastating for businesses, for law-abiding citizens, and for the homeless themselves – many of whom need mental health and addiction treatment and should not be left “free” to harm others or themselves.
So why are they so beloved by the activist class?
Because for today’s leftists, the people who obey the laws are the bad guys, and the lawbreakers—whether drug-addicted drifters, illegal immigrants, or gangbangers—are the only ones who deserve legal protection.
