Chery Has a vast range of brands and it has submitted a trademark in Australia for demonstrably its own.
IcarFounded in 2023, bears a name that sounds like it could have been used for the broken -down vehicle project from Apple, but instead is a Chinese electric vehicle (EV) brand that specializes in Boxy SUVs.
A trademark was submitted to IP Australia on December 23, 2024 for the Icar brand, specified for use on new vehicles.
“We are always interested in exploring models in the exciting Chery range, but currently there are no plans for both vehicles for the Australian market,” said a spokesperson for Chery Australia when asked about the opportunities on the Icar line Or the Omoda C9.
The latter was a vehicle both locally spying and approved for sale in our market.

It is still to be seen whether Chery will deviate from his previously announced strategy to sell vehicles in his namesake Brand and Jaecoo, which will be launched here later this year.
Chery is intended as the Mass-Market brand, where Jaecoo has a more premium positioning sugging why the Omoda C9 should not be for sale here, because it is a product of the Premium exed brand that does not fully fit under both the Chery – or Jaecoo nameplates.
Manufacturers often submit to protect name plates that may not be offered here.
Chery, for example, has also submitted to protect the brand names of Jaecoo, Jackour, Exlantix and Luxeed between 2022 and 2024, but only one of these is confirmed for a local launch.
Chery’s marketing strategies can also be very regional. In some markets, for example, it sells its Omoda 5 under a separate Omoda brand; Jaecoo models are sold in China as Cherys; And in Russia, certain exed models are sold under the Exlantix brand.
The debut product of Icar, the 03, is also sold as the Jaecoo J6 in certain markets, including another market for the right side, Thailand.
It measures 4406 mm long, 1910 mm wide and 1715 mm long on a wheelbase of 2715 mm. That makes the 169 mm shorter, 65 mm narrower and 35 mm longer than a Mazda CX-5 on a 15 mm longer wheelbase.
Available with a 50.63 kWh, 65.69 or 69.77 kWh Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, it offers between 401 km and 501 km of reach on the CLTC cycle.
In China it is offered with a choice of 135 kW/220 Nm Single engine or 165 kW/385 Nm Dual-Motor Powertrains.
The 03 was followed last year by the V23, which measures 4220 mm long, 1915 mm wide and 1845 mm long on a wheelbase of 2735 mm. That makes it bigger than a Suzuki Jimny XL, but smaller than Chery’s Omoda E5 Electric SUV.
It has between 301 km and 501 KM CLTC range, with a choice of 47.28, 59.93 and 81.76 kWh batteries.
The Boxy SUV is offered with 100 kW/180 Nm Single Motor and 155 KW/292 Nm Dual-Motor Powertrains.
