A Georgia cop once named President of the Year was charged with drunken driving this month after he allegedly tried to direct traffic on a street where there were no cars, authorities said.
Houston County Sheriff’s Deputy Garrison Page found himself on the other side of the law on Nov. 19 when an open can of Mike’s Hard Lemonade was reportedly discovered in his patrol vehicle outside an elementary school where he was behaving bizarrely, according to police documents obtained by local points of sale.
Authorities were first called to Skyview Elementary School after witnesses saw Page unsteadily directing traffic in plainclothes around 9 a.m., according to an incident report: according to WMT.
Page allegedly slurred his speech and smelled of alcohol while his patrol vehicle was also at the scene.
“Upon noticing my presence, Page immediately began walking away from the scene and into the oncoming turning lane of the roadway,” the Bibb County sheriff’s deputy wrote.
A county Board of Education officer who first made contact with Page said the officer was directing traffic in an area where there was no vehicle power and appeared to be intoxicated, the incident report said.
When another board of education official asked if Page needed medical attention, he responded, “That’s none of your business,” according to the incident report.
Page’s patrol vehicle reportedly had an unopened can of Natural Light in a black bag on top of the Mike’s Hard Lemonade that had already been broken open.
After he was arrested, he allegedly caused problems for officers when they tried to draw blood from him, WMGT reported.
Page earned “Alternate of the Year” when he worked for the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office in 2019 with many community members congratulating him on Facebook for this achievement.
He had only worked for Houston County for eight days prior to the alleged drunk driving incident. WMA reported this.
A Houston sheriff’s spokesman said Page had been suspended pending possible termination.
