CHICAGO – Four people are facing robbery and mob action charges for allegedly robbing a woman on a CTA bus, with one of them recording the incident on his phone. Two of the suspects had been provisionally released for other cases; one wore an ankle monitor.
Chicago police responded to a robbery in the 2400 block of West 51st Street on Tuesday around 2:40 p.m. When they arrived, a 32-year-old woman reported that three people punched and kicked her on the bus until one of them dragged her away while stealing her bag, according to a CPD report.
She directed officers to a nearby bus, where they arrested four suspects: Jaylen Sprouts, 20, Nigah Threets, 23, Devon Glass, 24, and Jayda Boatman, 22.
In court filings, prosecutors said Sprouts recorded the action while the other three physically assaulted and robbed the victim. A surveillance camera at a nearby school captured Sprouts capturing the robbery, officials said.
Threets was under GPS monitoring and confined overnight on a pending aggravated battery case, Judge William Fahy said as he remanded her on the new charges.
According to court records, the judge also arrested Glass, who was on probation for a weapons violation and on pretrial release for a misdemeanor assault.
Fahy released Boatman on electronic monitoring and sent Sprouts home under a curfew.
