Goodwood After Dark, Porsche Perfection and the NFS BMW M3 GTR: Mario Christou’s highlights of 2024

Goodwood After Dark, Porsche Perfection, & The NFS BMW M3 GTR: Mario Christou’s 2024 Highlights

To close out 2024, we asked our three busiest Speedhunters of the year to highlight their three favorite stories from the past twelve months: from cars to events and everything in between. Finally, we have Mario Christou to look back on his year of Speedhunting.

M.C: Whew, we made it to the end. What a year 2024 was, huh? This might have been my favorite year of hunting yet, and it was a real pleasure to document the car culture for you all. Judging by our social media engagement, I’d say you enjoyed the ride as much as I did.

Looking ahead, I’m curious to see what 2025 will bring – because honestly, I have no idea what to expect. I do know one thing: I want to take my own car to more events next year, although it could certainly use a mild refresh to be 100% again. I’d also like to delve deeper into motorsport events, whether they’re endurance races on a global scale or historic races a little closer to home. I already have a number of trips planned for both snowy and sandy locations, so expect a wider variety of content from me over the next twelve months. But before we race into 2025, with my personal favorite three stories from 2024…

I was torn on this one. I almost included all of my Goodwood Revival coverage in my top three, but the truth is I got tired of running around the track all day in the rain and blazing sun. But it was at night, when I left, that I really woke up. The sight of historic racing cars bathed in the soft glow of Christmas lights was straight out of a dream – and something I will never forget.

You’re probably tired of me waxing lyrical about my favorite makes and models, but a day spent with Paul McLean and his unique Porsche 993 RSR really got me thinking about my list of favorite cars. Picture this: a crisp, frosty morning in the British countryside, the sun rising over the dewy fields – a perfect backdrop for a beautiful, pastel-colored Porsche. The thunderous 3.8-liter soundtrack only made it better.

Okay, I’m feeling a little guilty, including an article from last week, but in my defense, I didn’t expect December to be so full of epic car adventures. And really, how could I not include this? Meeting one of my childhood hero cars in person – almost all to myself – was a moment that’s hard to top.

Bonus: N24 would have made the list this year if it hadn’t been shortened to just seven hours and if I had the usual media access. Still, it gets an honorable mention because it was a really fun weekend and an opportunity to show you as a spectator how you can experience the event.

This was meant to be a quick summary, so I’ll wrap it up here. But before I go, I want to wish you all a very Happy New Year and a 2025 full of even more great car culture.
