The annual I/O developer conference of Google will take place this week and the company will make a number of major announcements in the world of Android, Gemini Ai and hopefully Pixel.
Although there will be a personal event such as Normal, only a handful of invited to California, but there are ways to keep track of all the news.
Here is everything you need to know about Google I/O 2025, including the dates and what you can expect.
When is Google I/O 2025?
Google I/O 2025 is officially confirmed and takes place between 20-21 May 2025.
The most important keynote starts at 10 a.m. PST in California, which is 1 p.m. EST or 6:00 PM BST (UK time).
If the events in the past are something to enter into, it must take about two hours.

Prior to the full I/O conference, Google held the Android Show I/O edition where it announced the Material 3 Expressive Redesign for Android, together with Gemini who launched on many more devices and also wears OS 6 -NEWS.

What does Google I/O stand for?
If you are curious, it has a triple meaning.
To begin with, it stands for input/exit, which is a common term with computer use. It also stands for “Innovation in the Open”.
Moreover, it represents the first two digits (1 and 0) in the number googol.
“A Googol is one, followed by 100 zeros, so that is where the I/O -name and the logo came from. We just took the first and zero, and we left all the other zeros away. It all goes back to Google,” says Lorin Platto, director of events and experiences.
“And when we brainstorm, we started talking about what they could mean. That is where the ‘input / output’ and ‘innovation in the open’ slogans came from.”
What to expect from Google I/O 2025
Although Google has not revealed what will be revealed during this year’s event, in previous years we give us an idea of what we can expect.
Android 16
To begin with, it is almost certain that Android 16 will be an important topic of the event. Although, as noted above, it seems that it will receive an announcement prior to the most important I/O show.
Due to the replacement of Android 15, the software will bring a System onion revision with the name Material 3 Expressive.
Google has officially confirmed that Android 16 will be launched earlier than previous versions, aimed at a release in the second quarter of 2025.

Google Gemini Ai
The announcement of Android 16 in advance will free up the time in the keynote to talk about Gemini.
AI is everywhere and it is no wonder that Google is moving forward at full speed with Gemini, so don’t be surprised if the majority of the most important keynote is spent on it.
Google will undoubtedly show upcoming Gemini functions, probably with those risky demos on stage, which shows what AI can do in coming versions on your phone, tablet and other devices.

Android XR
I/O is software-oriented, but has had many hardware announcements over the years. That has been rejected, but we expect to hear more about Google’s Android XR platform.
Although the will of Google Glass, Cardboard and Daydream are all in the cemetery of the company, Android XR is a much larger push in extensive reality -weAbles with partners including Samsung and Qualcomm.
Samsung showed the Moohan project earlier this year, but I/O is perhaps a perfect opportunity for Google to tell us what the future of this project entails.

Pixel 10 -Series
We may hear more about Pixel 10 series phones, even when they are officially launched until later in the year.
According to recent rumors, Google can throw Samsung away and be on its way to TSMC to produce its own chipsets. This means that the Tensor G5 is the first fully in-house design of Google built on the 3NM process of TSMC.

With regard to AI and Machine Learning, the Tensor processors of Google have already distinguished themselves by exceling in these areas, and the Tensor G5 will probably push those possibilities even further.
Pixel Watch 4
We may see an update of Google’s Wear OS software for smartwatches, but new portable hardware is also possible.
All previous Pixel watches were unveiled during the Autumn Hardware event from Google, so we will probably also have to wait longer this time.

If so, the most likely scenario is the Pixel Watch 4, but it does not exclude the fact that it will arrive later in the year.
Other Pixelhardware
We can only hope, although hardware is nowadays a rarity with I/O, but we want devices such as the Pixel Tablet 2 and maybe even see a Pixel Smart Ring.
