A Google Street View camera captured the image of a suspect allegedly loading a corpse into his car in Spain – leading to his arrest on chilling murder and mutilation charges, according to a report.
A car filming the 360-degree map footage happened to be driving through the small town of Soria in October 2023, when it noticed what it said was a disturbing sight. The Times of London.
The image shows a 48-year-old suspect bending over to put a large object, wrapped in white plastic, into the trunk of his burgundy sedan, which is parked on the side of a sleepy street, the outlet reported.
Police believe the object was the body of Jorge Luis Perez, 32, who was later found dismembered in a cemetery in the nearby city of Andaluz, the report said.
Police arrested the suspect in the footage – who has not been named – along with an unidentified woman known as the victim’s former romantic partner.
It was not immediately clear why police thought there was a body in the bag.
Perez’s torso was later exhumed “in an advanced state of decomposition,” but the rest of his remains have yet to be found, according to police.
Before the chance tech encounter, a Google Street View photo had not been taken in the remote area for 15 years, the local newspaper said. El Pais, reported.
The suspect captured on camera can be seen wearing jeans, a blue jacket with the Club Deportivo Numancia football logo and brown boots.
Google Street View allows users to navigate maps in three dimensions using real photos taken by cameras taken by cars driving around the world.
