Guardians of Time and Transformation Commune in Jeanne Vicerial’s ‘Nymphosis’ – Colossal

Of black cord lengths, thread and fine metals, Jeanne Recalls the timeless, transforming power of armor and protective clothing in a new series of sculptures. Based on her body with the title Armors, The artist continues to create enigmatic sculptures that question the nature of presence, consciousness and change.

In the current Solo exhibition of the artist, Nymphosebee TemplonDark mysterious figures are in silent, contemplative observation. Some works, such as “PersEPhone n ° 3” or “presence, amnios”, portray semblances of human faces, while others as “mue n ° 9, nymphosis” can be inhabited by something more like a spirit or another worldly deity than a physical person.

Vicerial recently introduced metals such as copper and gold in physical cavities in its works, with the emphasis on female power and internal energy, which the gallery describes as “objects-as partners”. For the artist, these works concentrate around the nature of metamorphosis, both in the process of translating a single length of rope into a fully formed sculpture and in the biological and emotional ways that women transform over time.

As she Armors, the figures in Nymphose Own individual power that increases when they are collected. Vicerial uses words like “gardienne” in her titles, French for “Guardian” to imply protection. “Mue” translates into “Molt”, such as the way in which an animal can throw out its feathers or skin to make room for new growth.

Delicate and soft figures from Vicerial are at the same time long, elegant, timeless ways. The artist positions their vulnerabilities as strengths and is evident from the social taboo of women aging and the inevitable life cycle.
