The fourth season of the bickering buddy comedy is over, but Deborah and Ava have not yet said their last word. HBO has green -lit hacks for season 5, in which the two comedians will get larger challenges than ever before.
The lucky news came shortly before season 4 final. Such as it in Underhill, president of Universal Television, co-producing the show, stated (via Variety):
Just like Deborah Vance itself, ‘hacks’ only becomes more brave, sharper and more iconic. We are more happy to let the laughter roll with Jen, Paul, Lucia, our extraordinary cast and crew and our partners at Max.
Season 4 brought a new dose of dramas, razor -sharp jokes and showbiz satire. Again, the makers offer viewers an emotional roller coaster – will the fifth episode retain this standard?
Here is everything we know about the next season of Hacks.
When will hacks season 5 be released?
For now, HBO has not unveiled an official premiere date for the fifth season of the show.
Season 2 arrived a year after season 1 was released. However, fans had to wait almost two years for season 3. The delay was mainly caused by the Hollywood strikes, which lasted from May to September 2023. Season 4 premiered on April 11, 2025, one year after the first episode of the third episode was released.
Therefore, if nothing unexpected happens, Hack’s season 5 can appear In the spring of 2026.
What can the plot of Hacks season 5 be over?
Spoilers for season 4 below.
In the fourth season, Deborah held her lifelong dream of organizing the Late Night Show. However, she started a rough start because of a conflict with AVA. In the final of season 3, Deborah betrayed the girl by not hiring her as the main writer of the show. AVA, however, blackmailed the diva to change his mind by threatening to reveal Deborah’s romance with network CEO Bob Lipke.
In season 4, constant arguments and mutual maliciousness disrupted the work on the show, but in the end Deborah and Ava managed to forgive each other and reconcile.
At the end of the season, however, Deborah was again confronted with a tough choice: Fire Ava, who worked the network, or left the show with her. Eventually the comedian decided to resign from the Late Night Show, to mock the CEO and announce her decision during a live episode. Unfortunately, Deborah’s moment of Triumph was ruined – it turned out that because of her contract with the network she was not allowed to take a new performance for the next 18 months.
Despite all that, season 4 ended in a hopeful note. After having spent months in residence in the Singapore Casino, Deborah and AVA ran back to the US. Deborah decided to start the fight and rebuild her career – how she will do it is unknown, but one thing is certain. In season 5 she will have to sail to unknown waters.
AVA will probably accompany her, but it becomes clear that the girl has to find her own path, both in her professional and in personal lives.
Maximum
Regarding other characters, season 5 will certainly run the constant struggle of Jimmy and Kayla, who try to run their own PR agency. We really hope to see more from Marcus, who resigned in season 4 when working with Deborah. Something tells us that he can reconsider his decision and return to the Deborah gang, possibly with some brilliant new ideas.
Who can play a leading role in Hack’s season 5?
We expect the following cast members to repeat their roles in the fifth season:
- Jean Smart – Deborah Vance
- Hannah Einbinder – AVA Daniels
- Paul W. Downs – Jimmy Lussaque
- Carl Clemon-Hopkins – Marcus
- Megan Stalter – Kayla
- Kaitlin Olsen – DJ
- Poppy Liu – Kiki
- Rose Abdoo – Josefina
- Mark Intelicato – Damien
- Lorenza Izzo – Ruby
- Jane Adams – Nina Daniels, Ava’s mother
- Christopher McDonald – Marty Ghilain, Las Vegas Casino – owner
- Paul Felder – Aidan, DJ’s husband
- Polly Draper – Diana, the psychological
- Luenell – Miss Loretta
- Johnny Sibilly – Wilson
Because we do not know how the careers of Deborah and AVA will unfold, it is hard to say whether characters associated with the Late Night Show, such as Bob Lipka (Tony Goldwyn), Winnie Landell (Helen Hunt) or Rob (Dan Bucatinsky) will return.
Is there a trailer for hacks season 5?
No, because the work on the set has not yet started, there is no trailer that promotes the fifth entry in the series.
Will there be a hacks season 6?
Nothing has been decided yet, but the show can end in season 5.
In 2024 Paul W Downs, co-maker of Hacks, told The Hollywood Reporter:
We threw the very last scene in the very last episode when we threw the show, and we have always had a fairly clear vision of what the tent poles of each season would be … Five would be ideal.
In 2025, Jen Statsky, co-maker of the series, stated in an interview with Collider ::
I think keeping the relationship fresh and ensuring that there are new places for Deborah and Ava to be dealt with, that’s the beating heart of the show. If we’ve found a way [to do more] That was logical, maybe, yes. But at the moment, [five seasons] Is still the plan.
It seems that the makers of the series have planned their story for five seasons, but of course they can decide to create more of it. Stay informed for more information about the subject.
