CHICAGO — It’s not easy to run from the police in handcuffs. It must be even harder when you have a machine gun stuck in your crotch. But prosecutors say that’s exactly what Tyrus Walker did last Thursday on the Chicago Lawn. And his sprint to freedom was captured on video.

Judge Antara Rivera ordered Walker, 28, held after prosecutors laid out their charges the next day.

Just after 5 p.m., Chicago Police responded to a shots fired call in the 6200 block of South Western. According to a CPD report, they found an unoccupied car in the area with shell casings surrounding it. And a 911 caller reported seeing someone with a gun: a black man with dreadlocks, wearing a yellow shirt and a camouflage bandana, the report said.

About an hour later, police spotted the same car in traffic and stopped it near 63rd Street and Artesian. There were three people in the vehicle, including Walker, who matched the description of the man previously seen with a gun, the CPD report said.

Officers detained the car’s occupants, but Walker fled the scene after officers placed him in handcuffs, the report said.

That’s where the video first posted on Facebook by Anonymous 2.0, starts. Look at:

Police caught Walker just off camera and knocked him down. They found a loaded handgun with an extended magazine and an automatic fire switch in his “front thigh area,” the report said.

Walker, who officials said has a permit to possess firearms but not a concealed carry permit, is charged with unlawful use of a machine gun.
