Home invader shoots and seriously injures woman in Rogers Park

CHICAGO – A woman was shot and seriously injured by an intruder in Rogers Park Sunday morning, Chicago police said.

The 50-year-old was with her husband at their home in the 7700 block of North Marshfield when an “unknown male entered” around 8:48 a.m., according to a CPD statement. The intruder began shooting and struck the woman several times, including in the torso, an officer at the scene said.

The gunman ran out of the building after the shooting, but it is not known where he went afterward.

According to police recordings, the victim’s husband called 911 and reported that a man had kicked in the door and shot her. His call was dispatched at 8:34 a.m., indicating the time provided by CPD may be slightly off.

Rogers Park has seen 31 shootings so far this year. That is exactly the same number as last year and also in 2022. One of the shootings last year was self-inflicted. Officials determined that four of the 2022 shootings were acts of self-defense. There were 24 shootings in the area in 2021.

A home invader fatally shot a Wisconsin man last year after breaking into an apartment in the 7600 block of North Sheridan, less than a half-mile from Sunday’s shooting.

CWBChicago was founded in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had become discouraged by the inaccurate information presented during local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has since expanded to Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown and other North Side areas.
