A homeless man left a trail of destruction in at least four Buddhist and Taoist temples in Lower Manhattan Tuesday, Cops said.
Taihong Ouyang, 49, was beaten with criminal criminal disaster and burglary accusations for the destructive bender with a stop at the Sung Tak Buddhist Association on Pike Street near East Broadway – where he reportedly beat religious items with a fire extinguisher, police officers and sources.
During the Chinatown and Lower East Side Spree, Ouyang is also said to have directed the Guanyinsi – World Buddhist center to Henry Street near Rutgers Street, where he damaged two security cameras, according to authorities and sources.
He also focused on the PU Chao -Buddhist temple on Eldridge Street near Canal Street, Cops said.
Ouyang was finished just after 8 hours when he brought in the Huang da Xian Taoist on the Bowery near Pell Street and damaged a whole series of items, Cops said.
Someone called 911 to report vandalism and Ouyang was detected and arrested, the authorities said.
Ouyang is also accused of vandalism at two other locations – one in Canal Street near De Bowery and the other in East Broadway near Market Street, where two front doors were damaged, says sources.
It is unclear whether those buildings are also houses of worship.
It was also not exactly when Ouyang started his spree, or why he focused on the temples.
Ouyang’s preliminary guide was being treated on Wednesday at the Criminal Court in Manhattan.
