Of torn pieces of paper, Nia Winslow Constructs vibrant scenes that evoke together and nostalgia, often go back to the mid -20th century. The artist established in Brooklyn has taught himself to make collages with mixed media with the help of paper that attached themselves to wooden panels, which draws from stories, moods and memories.
Winslow focuses primarily on the African diaspora and traces stories about the lives of black individuals in America. Through collages made with a variety of textures, cuttings and clippings, they enlighten young people who play outside, spend sitting with their parents and spend time together.
The artist likes to combine her passion for style telling stories. She takes inspiration from artists such as Romare Bearden, Kerry James Marshall, Faith Ringgold and Jacob Lawrence, who often portray black figures during daily activities and in informal, relaxed institutions.
“Medaan or complex, every piece is made to capture the essence of life by the lens of someone experiencing it,” she says in a statement. Cars, urban architecture, items of clothing and hairstyles arise in lively, intimate portraits of community, support and self -love.
