Is this the 2026 Toyota RAV4?

The fifth generation Toyota RAV4 -or at least the Chinese market version-seems to have been leaked online.

A single image was published on Chinese social media network Weibo and re-published by the Japanese outlet Creative trendreportedly taken at a GAC Toyota dealer meeting in China.

This is reportedly a whim of the GAC Toyota joint venture, which currently exists as a slightly restyled version of the RAV4 produced in China by the FAW Toyota joint venture.

Creative trend Reports The new Wildlander will be unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show on April 23, 2025, which suggests an unveiling of the new RAV4 isn’t far behind.

The next generation RAV4 is already testing in the US.

The current Wildlander differs largely in the styling of its front and rear fasciae, with it and the RAV4 otherwise sharing the same bodywork and TNGA-K platform.

The new mid-size SUV is expected to ride on an updated version of the TNGA-K platform and continue to offer hybrid and plug-in hybrid power.

It will likely get Toyota’s new hybrid system, as seen in the new Camry. In the sedan this sees a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine mated to a new electric motor and battery for a total system output of 170kW.

Unlike the latest Camry, the RAV4 appears to be getting new doors. These have sharp creases, reminiscent of the smaller C-HR.

Up front, the new-generation SUV features C-shaped lighting elements and a similar ‘hammerhead’ look to other recent Toyota products such as the new Camry.

However, the angular wheel arches and creases on the bottom of the doors closely resemble the same details on the current RAV4.

While we have yet to see it in the next-generation SUV, it could feature a pair of 12.3-inch screens—one for the infotainment system, the other for the digital instrument cluster—as they do in the Camry.

Toyota has confirmed it’s not looking to rock the boat with its new RAV4.

“Rav4 is simple,” said Toyota Motor North America Product Planning Head Cooper Ericksen Automotive news in July 2024.

“We have other product segments that are difficult, but the customer has been clear about what they want from the RAV4: the size, the packaging, the level of performance, technology.

“We could sell 500,000 of those things a year if we could build them, so we don’t want to mess up that formula.”

The company said the RAV4 topped its Camry in terms of overall sales over the past 10 years.

Last year in Australia it was the brand’s best-selling vehicle. It fell just short of being Australia’s best-selling vehicle overall, with its 58,718 deliveries dwarfed by the Ford Ranger (62,593). The current RAV4 was released locally in 2019.
