A recent application with the American Communications Commission (FCC) suggests that Sony would soon be able to launch his new flagship with noise-suppressing headphones, the WH-1000XM6.
The FCC application, noted by The Walkman Blog, reveals some design changes, including a new hinge design and removable ear cushions.
A product diagram also shows that the ear cushion can be removed, so that a plate with the model and serial number becomes visible, which could mean that the ear cushions are attached without screws. Many designs on the market use magnets so that Sony can take this route.
The model number of the new headphones is YY2984, comparable to YY2954 of the XM5. The confidentiality request of the FCC ends on July 22, 2025, which indicates a possible official launch on or shortly after that date.
Sony released the latest version of the headphones three years ago, the WH-1000XM5. They are repeatedly praised as the best on the market and will compete with, among others, the Bose Quietcomfort Headphones and Sonos Ace.
