SsangYong Australia is changing brands to KGM SsangYong Australiabringing it in line with other markets around the world.
The automaker’s Australian division, now known as KG Mobility in South Korea, inherits the KGM prefix but retains SsangYong in its name and retains the familiar winged logo.
Australia is one of the latest markets to adopt the KGM name, created after Korean industrial company KG Group acquired a 61 percent stake in the company in 2022.
However, Australia is one of the few markets where the combined KGM Ssangyong branding is used – a decision made to ensure continued brand recognition. In most markets the manufacturer is now known simply as KG Mobility or KGM.

“We decided to go for a new name to fully leverage the strength of SsangYong Motor,” SsangYong and KG Group chairman Kwak Jae-sun said in December 2022.
“Under the name SsangYong, the company has a fandom, but it also has a painful image.”
The launch of the new name coincides with the introduction of the new Torres SUV, which will go on sale in October.
SsangYong has been a fixture on the Australian automotive scene since the mid-1990s and has operated as a factory company since 2019, with a national headquarters and parts distribution center in Melbourne.
KGM Australia’s SsangYong range includes the Musso ute and Rexton large seven-seat SUV, as well as the Korando mid-size crossover.
The petrol-powered Torres will be joined later this year by the electric Torres EVX, the brand’s first electric vehicle (EV) in Australia.
