A 57-year-old broker from Los Angeles in the suburbs was arrested for the first time in his life-because they reportedly have almost 164 pounds of cocaine in his luggage on Chicago Union Station.
“Wow. That is a lot. I mean, that is a lot,” noted Deidre Dyer during the first court for the agent, Jerome Nalbandian.
The prosecutors said that Nalbandian was arrested at Union Station on 13 April with 75.15 kilos of suspected cocaine filled in four roll bags. That converts to 163.47 pounds.
“I have so many questions, but I know that I am not going to get the answers to them today,” said the confused judge.
“I am completely shocked that it is not a federal matter,” the judge noted, “but whatever. Nobody comes from another state with so many kilos. I don’t know. But I think someone in the drug unit just itched to submit something.”
After repeatedly confirming with public prosecutors, a public defender and judicial officers that Nalbandian had never been arrested before and that the State did not try to hold Nalbandian, Dyer released him to wait for the trial.
“So I just tell you,” Dyer warned, “you can mess and go back to California and think it will not go alone. So it would decide to reach all your court dates. For this class of infringement if you don’t come to court, I am sure we would come and bring you here.
A mugshot for Nalbandian was not available. He is accused of trading a regulated substance.
