Chicago – a woman who worked as a ‘paranormal’ at Three Lakeview shops has found guilty guilty of cheating a customer by promising to remove a curse from the victim for $ 72,000.
Jennifer Williams, 51, made her plea for accusation of theft by fraud and received a probationary period of two years from judge Shelley Sutker-Ddermer. During her hearing last week, she paid the victim $ 25,000 in refund, officials said.
Private researcher Bob Nygaard worked the case and said the victim thought that Williams’ punishment was a ‘blow to the wrist’. The woman had lost $ 74,669.10 to payments to Williams and other costs incurred during the scam, he said.
Prosecutors said that Williams worked as an ‘alleged psychological fortune counter’, misleading a 21-year-old Edgewater-Vrouw to believe she was under a curse. Williams convinced the woman to remove the curse by giving William’s large sums of cash that Williams was supposed to “clean and return to the victim,” said the court applications.
The woman gave Williams a total of $ 72,200 for ‘cleaning’, but Williams never gave it back, according to the first allegations.
Nygaard said that Williams worked at three stores near Belmont and Broadway. The prosecutors mentioned two of those locations as the addresses where the victim was scammed. All three store fronts have no neon signs that promote psychological services.
Nygaard said Williams claimed that she had the supernatural power to remove a “curse” that teased the victim and her family members. Over time, Williams convinced the woman to transfer tens of thousands of dollars to an employee via Zelle and Venmo. Nygaard explained that Williams was supposed to remove the curse from the money and bring it back to the victim, but the victim received only $ 300 back.
