From recognizable scenes around her home in Scotland to subtly rendered snapshots of places she visits, Laura K. SayersCarefully crafted stamps nod to connections from afar. The artist, who also illustrates children’s books and receives commissions for special projects such as greeting cards, processes tiny pieces of colorful paper into small scenes that fit in the palm of a hand.
Much of the work on view here is currently on display solo in Sayers’ solo exhibition of miniatures, entitled The small hours bee N.atelier. A series of everyday scenes are recorded in a format that we usually associate with important events and memories, documenting fleeting moments like small treasures. Some of her recent pieces are inspired by the Finnish landscape that emerged during the artist’s stay in the Fiskars Artist-in-Residence program, organized by Onoma.
