It is no surprise that many large, left-wing social media accounts have recently joined bluesky-but A new analysis From the Pew Research Center tries to quantify that shift.
This is as an update Pew’s News Influencer Report Released in November 2024, which Blusky did not include in his figures. The report was aimed at a relatively small group of 500 influencers, all of whom have more than 100,000 followers on at least one large platform and regularly post about current events.
For this bluesky-centric update, PEW looked at the same influencers (in contrast to accounts that may have found a large audience on Bluesky exclusively) and saw that 43% of them had an account on Bluesky in February/March. Just over half (51%) of those accounts were established after the presidential elections of 2024.
There is a big gap between influencers on the right and left, with 69% of the left -wing accounts (those who explicitly identified as liberals or democrats and expressed support for Kamala Harris or Joe Biden before the presidential elections) that made the jump to Bluesky, while only 15% of the conservative.
This movement was not necessary at the expense of X (formerly Twitter). While the alliance of X-owner Elon Musk with the Nu-President Donald Trump seemed to be driving new users to Bluesky, 82% of the influencers followed by PEW still had an account on X, only a little lower than 85% in the summer of 2025.
In other words, even when left-leaning influencers immerse their toes in bluesky, most of them (87%) X says. Pew also says that most influencers also regularly continue to post on X than on Bluesky.
Bluesky activity, however, seems to pick up – the number of influencers on Bluesky who actually posted 54% in the first week of January to 66% in the last full week of March.
