Boo! Or should we say roar? Maybe even squeak? The answer is all of the above when it comes to Lisa Agnetun‘s ceramic ghosts, which pose as walruses, octopuses and even blocks of cheese with mice.
Based in Gothenburg – or, as Agnetun aptly calls it, Ghostenburg – the Swedish ceramist (formerly) sculpts an ensemble of little ghosts donning elaborate outfits. Often in pairs or groups of three, the cute figures play roles as various mammals, sea creatures and sometimes snacks.

Although ghosts are a common symbol around Halloween, Agnetun emphasizes that her ghosts are not entirely tied to the fall holiday. “My ghosts are not for Halloween,” she explains. “They are for life.”
Experimenting with a range of ceramic techniques, from hand-building to mixing different glazes, the artist’s sculptures are a love letter to clay. “I love how this inorganic, lifeless material allows me to create something tangible that, at the end of the process, feels like it is inhabiting a soul! All unique yet the same. Just like us,” says Agnetun.
Agnetun is preparing for an exhibition next summer and will keep her informed Etsy shop every month. Stay tuned for announcements about her website And Instagram.
