The accused killer of health care CEO Luigi Mangione railed about “double jeopardy” in an outburst in court Friday after a judge set a June 8 trial date in his headline-grabbing case.
The 27-year-old Ivy League graduate was left fuming after Manhattan state Judge Gregory Carro set the early trial date — skipping a separate October trial date set by the FBI in the Southern District of New York.
“It’s the same process twice. One plus one equals two. This is double jeopardy for all common sense!” Mangione shouted at reporters as court officials led him from the room.
Mangione’s lawyers claimed in court that they would not be ready for a trial in June, prompting a scathing response from the judge.
“Be prepared,” Carro said angrily from the bench.
Mangione has pleaded not guilty to the December 2024 cold-blooded murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson on a Midtown sidewalk.
