Bodycamer statues of the police show that a man ignored the orders of the officers and accused them while he waved a knife before the police shot him on Monday and killed officials. The Chicago police say they believe that the man, who has not been publicly identified, killed a 58-year-old man before CPD arrived on the spot.
Officers responded to calls from a man who threatened other residents with a knife in a guided living in the 1400 block of East 75th Street around 2:23 am. The officers met an armed 57-year-old man within the building and tried to de-escalate, according to Copa, the agency accused of research into use of power by Chicago Cops.
The officers put tasers in the direction of the man, but he continued to ignore their orders and “hurried to an officer while he was waving the knife,” Copa said in a media release on Wednesday.
Two officers shot at the man and hit him several times, according to Copa. No officers were injured.
Copa said that CPD -Labies cameras registered the first interaction and the shooting. Those images are released within 60 days after the incident, unless a court issues a court order.
Hours after the shooting, the police found the 58-year-old Keith Harding stabbed to death in an apartment on the fifth floor of the building, the same floor where the shooting took place. CPD said his researchers believe that the man’s shot is responsible for the death of Harding.

CWBCHICAGO was founded in 2013 by five residents of Wigleyville and Boystown who had been discouraged with inaccurate information that was provided during meetings of the local community policing (CAPS). Our coverage area has since been expanded to cover Lincoln Park, River North, De Loop, Uptown and other North Side areas.
