A 41-year-old man is accused of murder in the first degree in connection with a fatal shooting at a gas station in the south side. The incident, recorded on video on the BP station on 7448 South Stony Island, took place around 1:15 am on 14 May.

Security images, which later circulated online, showed two men who were outside the gas station. One man pulled a firearm, shot the other several times up close and then fled in the passenger seat of a white Chevy Impala. The victim, 40-year-old Donnell Patton, died of wounds on his face and body.

Prosecutors said that the Chicago license plate readers used to identify and locate the vehicle. Police officers quickly supervise the car and arrested 41-year-old Jonathan Robinson while walking to the vehicle about nine hours after the shooting in the 7200 block of South Cornell.

Judge Luciano Panici, Jr. Ordered Robinson to hold on to the indictment for murder. Prosecutors noted the earlier convictions of Robinson, including theft in 2018 and illegal possession of a firearm by a criminal in 2021.
